Meet the Team

  • Julie Mitchell

I have always had an interest in what makes human beings tick, and prior to becoming a police officer, I undertook a BSc Psychology degree. During my police service, I took on additional roles of welfare support and wellbeing champion. These entailed the use of counselling skills, which then led to my re-training as a counsellor in preparation for police retirement.

I then set up my private practice in York, and due to my interest in trauma work, I decided to train to be an EMDR therapist. Many clients are not aware that their unexplained or out-of-place reactions are often trauma-based, and can be alleviated through the use of EMDR. I have found by incorporating this therapeutic model into my counselling work (where appropriate), clients have achieved relatively rapid relief from debilitating symptoms of trauma.

The reason for me setting up this course is to share the passion I feel in using this therapeutic tool, along with my experiences of what I have learned along the way.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an EMDR practitioner (EMDR London).
